An EPIC (Empowering People In Christ) Letter
The word epic as defined by Webster’s unabridged dictionary is; “noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style”. This definition causes me to stop and ponder; who is my hero? Is it Jesus, or is it someone or something else this world has to offer? Am I living my life the way God intended; with power, strength, greatness, courage, openness, authenticity, and freedom? Or am I enslaved to a life of weakness, worldliness, smallness, cowardess, close-mindedness, phoniness, and addiction?
I know the answer to those questions for my life, but what about you? Who is your hero? And where does your power come from? Is it a limited supply? God loves you and He wants to give you a life of spacious freedom and of great power. He created you to live a life of epic proportions, but in order to so, you have to let Him be the author of your story. He wants to be the hero; the one who conquers that which threatens to shut you down, and keep you from living the life He intended for you; a life of freedom and courage. You don’t have to alter who you are, or change your personal style; it’s what makes you unique. You simply need to ask God to take control of your life; He’ll do the rest, including giving you unlimited access to the world's greatest power source.
If you’ve never surrendered your life to God, and you want to, you can do it right now. Just talk to God and acknowledge that God sent His one and only son Jesus to die on the cross for your sins, recognize that none of us is heroic enough to achieve greatness on our own and get into heaven by our own good deeds, and that’s why we need a Savior. Believe that Jesus heroically died on your behalf and ask Him to take control of your life from this moment on, to author the rest of your story, and to empower you to live the life He created you for. It’s that simple! It takes courage to let Him author your story, but if you do, your life will become a legend of impressively epic proportions.
If you just asked Jesus to be your hero for the first time, congratulations! A hero has an interest in keeping those He loves protected and safe. You have the freedom to make choices; I encourage you to make the choice to begin this new chapter of your story by reading the best epic ever written; the Bible; its God’s love story to you. In it, you will find power and strength to live authentically and courageously, no matter what is happening in your story, as well as some great guidelines for living which will protect you from unnecessary pain and disappointment. Everything you need to live the life of immense greatness He has planned is already in you; draw on God’s power within to begin living the spacious, free life He intended for you!
Peace,
Laura
